  Bill Cuts Federal Incomes Taxes for Over 36,500 8^th District Households

WASHINGTON - Rep. Brad Ellsworth today voted to provide income tax relief to thousands of middle-class Hoosier taxpayers. The AMT Relief Act of 2008 cuts federal income taxes for approximately 36,500 households in the 8^th District by preventing them from paying the higher Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT). The AMT was originally implemented to ensure very wealthy individuals do not avoid paying income tax, but because it is not adjusted for inflation, the tax now threatens to raise taxes on middle-class families in Indiana. The House passed the tax relief measure today, 233-189.
